What did we really expect? Come on. It was the defending national champions night, all night. The King’s College Lady Monarchs lost a barn-burner 86-41 to FDU-Florham Wednesday night and it was never close. Never.

King’s got their first basket after about 11 minutes in the first half and trailed 44-9 at intermission. The Lady Devils shot 52.9 from behind the arch on 9-17 shooting in the first half. The three point barrage was led by Leigh-Ann Lively who was 3-10 for the game from three. She finished with a double double going for 12 points and 12 boards.

FDU’s pace of play was consistently under control and that was largely in part due to Alicia Cox. The point guard weaved her way in and out of traffic all night as she finished with 14 points in just 22 minutes.

The Lady Rams were firing from all angles tonight as they had five players score double figures. Kyra Dayon led the team with 15.

Coach Brian Donoghue was asked after the game what he tells his girls after a game this lopsided. His response was very simple.

“You got to be better tomorrow,” he said.

No more, no less I guess coach. He went on to say that he thought his team had a great week of practice, though it didn’t matter much when the National Champs strutted through Wilkes-Barre, barely breaking a sweat.

There is not much positive (if any) that you can take out of this game, but don’t expect this to set the Lady Monarchs far back. As said earlier, they didn’t lose to a team full of scrubs, the lost to arguably the  most talented Division III team in the nation.

Marrissa Manning especially struggled tonight.  the upperclassmen shot 0-10 from the field. This is a night that she will not want to remember.

It would not be fair of me to just pick out Manning as the whole team shot  21.4 percent for the game. It is as simple as this, you are not going to win many games shooting like that.
