The King’s Lady Monarchs dropped a hard fought battle, 57-51, to DeSales Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium and in Coach Donoghue’s words his team just “didn’t see the ball go in the basket.”
King’s buckets came far and few between early on in the first half. Within the first eight minutes of the game they only managed six points, both coming from behind the arch.
The second part of the first half was more kind to the Lady Monarchs though as Kayla Feirheller netted four triples in the first half as she finished with 14 in the set.
King’s shot a less than stellar 32 percent in the fist half but only trailed 29-21 in part because DeSales could not finish around the rim. The Lady Bulldogs finished the first half shooting 37.5 percent and were lead by Mikelyn Mackavage’s 10 and Jen Napolitanos seven.
When asked about his team effort, Donoghue dismissed the notion of “effort” because it’s something that should come natural to college athletes.
“It was good, but we dont really talk effort a lot,” Donoghue said post game. “We are college athletes and I’d hope we would get that everyday.”
The Lady Monarchs lose gives them a (5-8, 1-2) record overall. They will travel to St. David’s to take on a quality Freedom Conference opponent Eastern on Saturday.
