King’s football has dropped another, this time to lowly Albright that’s been having a subpar season up until Saturday. With the win, the Monarchs fall to 3-4 matching the Lions’ record.

After falling in double overtime to a lesser opponent, there are obvious holes in the team’s game. Let’s examine them with this week’s “Winners & Sinners.”

Winners

Kyle McGrath, RB, King’s: It’s hard to blame McGrath or the rush blocking of the offensive line for this week’s loss. McGrath got the call 23 times for 126 yards, but no touchdowns. The entire rushing attack produced 252 yards total, trouncing a lesser Albright defense.

Chris Dawson, RB, Albright: He wasn’t more dominant than McGrath, but he was the most useful back in the game. Dawson scored both touchdowns in OT to give the Lions the win and was averaging a strong 6.6 yards per carry on the day. It’s crazy that he didn’t get more touches.

Here’s the freshman back’s walk-off touchdown run

Dan Kempa, WR, King’s: Like usual, Kempa can do no wrong. Another 100+ yard day for the senior star on 11 snags, padded by a 53-yard catch. Kempa also had two touchdowns, one a key grab in overtime to keep the Monarchs in the game.

Steve Barroso, LB, Albright: named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against the Monarchs, his second award this season. Barroso racked up nine total tackles, two for loss, had the game’s only interception and a pass breakup to lead the Lion defense. He made the tackle to stop the Monarchs on 4th-and-2 during the second overtime period.

Anthony Martuccio, S, King’s: The junior safety added to his strong third season with eight total tackles, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, his second in as many games. The fumble recovery gave the Monarchs a 10-7 lead in the third quarter.

Daniel Sobolewski, K, Albright: the Lions kicker had a stellar day on Special Teams, a lot of his work keeping Albright in the contest, for which he was named MAC Special Teams Player of the Week. He kicked a school-record 52-yard field goal in the second quarter, breaking his own record by one yard. Additionally, he pinned multiple touchbacks against the Monarchs.
