WILKES BARRE –The King’s Women’s basketball team defeated Delaware Valley 89-72. The Lady Monarchs shot an outstanding 52.6 percent from the field.  King’s had four scorers in double figures, being led by Kayla Feairheller with 20.  King’s shot 9-19 from three and held the Lady Rams to 4-29 from behind the arc.

But, don’t expect King’s to put up and 89 points on a consistent basis. Head coach Brian Donoghue even said so.

“We are a 70 plus team I believe and that is a lot,” Donoghue said.

Del-Val was led by Brenna Coll with 20 on 10-22 shooting.

Junior, Eireann Anastasi, who averages 16 points a game tallied up 19 but shot very poor from the field. she finished the game 8-25 from the floor and a putrid 1-9 from 3. The underclassmen did not play her best game but you can see she is a very talented player.

The biggest problem for King’s was that it did not take care of the basketball. King’s committed 24 total turnovers. That is a number that must go down for the team to be successful.

The Lady Monarch’s best asset was its balanced attack. With three players scoring over 15 points, The Del-Val defense was on it heals all night.

Yes, the Lady Monarchs scored 89 points but that is not what I’m going to take away from their performance. It is simple, turnovers lose you games and you will not beat good teams bu committing 24 of them. Just imagine the numbers they could have put up with out the turnovers.

Nonetheless this was a big win for the Lady Monarchs because all conference games are big especially with the Freedom Conference being so wide open.

“They were our pick for 2nd in the preseason poll. We have a lot of respect for them,” Donoghue said.
