Coming off a BYE week, Monarch football is set to travel across state lines to play conference foe FDU-Florham at Robert Shield Field in Madison, NJ, on Saturday.

King’s (2-3, 2-2 in MAC) are trying to create a similar momentum as they did last season, when they started a five-game winning streak that catapulted them to their best overall record in the Jeff Knarr era.

Now, coming off victories over Lebanon Valley and Misericordia on homecoming weekend, the Monarchs are looking to spoil the Devils’ (0-5, 0-4 MAC) homecoming, with a state reunion of their own. Nearly half of the varsity roster hails from the Garden State.

This is the 22nd meeting between the two teams, King’s holding a 14-7 advantage overall. King’s won last season’s game 52-21 and the Devils bested the Monarchs in 2012 with a 30-14 victory, that was also the last time King’s played in Madison.

Knarr is in the middle of the fifth year of his rebuild with Monarch football, a tenure that has earned him a 12-33 overall record. Devils’ head coach, Brian Surace, is 4-31 in his fourth year with the program, half of his victories coming against King’s. He was a King’s assistant in 1995.

By the Numbers

  • 6, 7, 8: King’s is ranked sixth in the MAC in total offense, producing 293.8 yards of total offense per game.  The Monarchs are seventh in the conference in passing yards (180.8) and eighth in rushing yards per game (113.0 ypg).
  • 163: Senior rusher Kyle McGrath is that many yards away from passing John Ortiz for fifth all-time for total rushing yards in a career at King’s College
  • 210.4: FDU ranks fifth in the MAC with 210.4 passing yards per game. The Devils run what appears to be a one-dimensional offense, only producing 11 rushing yards per game
  • 54: Sophomore Bobby Russell leads the Monarch defense with 54 tackles this season and leads the conference with 10.8 tackles per game
  • 36: That’s how many catches freshman standout Malik Pressley has snagged through five games. He also hauled in a school-record 13 catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns last week against Albright
  • 0: The number of victories recorded by the Devils this season overall and in conference play
